Job Description: Under the general direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of the School of Music is responsible for the management of the division, the music facilities and the School of Music events. The Dean supervises and evaluates faculty and oversees the administration of bargaining agreements and personnel administration regarding faculty. The Dean will be an integral part of the management of the division of academic affairs and will be expected to assist in the strategic planning and formulation of policies within academic affairs.


Supervisory Responsibility: The incumbent does have supervisory responsibility for full time and adjunct faculty and program chairs.



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Division of Academic Affairs in formulating policies

  • Supervise full-time and adjunct faculty and program chairs

  • Recruit full-time and adjunct faculty

  • Administer the bargaining agreements and personnel administration regarding faculty and support staff

  • Maintain and develop plans for faculty professional development including the implementation and updating of annual faculty development activities

  • Coordinate and implement and orientation for full-time and adjunct faculty

  • Manage divisional meetings

  • Collaborate and plan with other division deans within Academic Affairs

  • Lead and coordinate assignment of staff to participate in mandatory departmental activities to include program reviews, course outline updates, program updates and assessment activities

  • Plan and manage the assignment and coordination of faculty active participation in college committees

  • Lead new program development and program review

  • Maintain and oversee departmental assessment activities

  • Schedule of all division courses in collaboration with the VP to include day/evening/weekend

  • Maintain and oversee articulation agreements

  • Plan and Collaborate with SCCC College in the High School

  • Plan and Collaborate with Student Affairs to oversee faculty advising

  • Participate in student orientation, open houses, and information nights

  • Coordinate assignment of faculty and staff to participate in new and general student registration

  • Oversee and manage dispute resolution between students and divisional faculty

  • Lead the development and maintenance of annual department budget

  • Coordinate the use of facilities

  • Coordination and oversight of facilities

  • Further development of musical offerings and usage of building

  • Maintenance of National Accreditation with National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and other accrediting bodies

  • Provide leadership and oversee current or new program accreditations

  • Lead in planning for facilities, equipment and staffing needs based on strategic planning initiatives

  • Participate in strategic planning

  • Implement and manage an analysis of programs and staffing needs

  • Serve as the Evening Administrator in charge at least one week per semester

  • Collaborate with vice president to determine cost effectiveness of program/section offerings

  • Collaborate on college-wide publications promoting divisional activities

  • Plan and coordinate with divisions on all credit programming including off-site activities

  • Coordinate all divisional advisory committees

  • Lead and Maintain NASM accreditation

  • Other duties as assigned by the Provost


Education & Experience


Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree required

  • Five years of teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting

  • Evidence of management/leadership experience

  • Budget experience

  • Experience with academic assessment

Preferred Requirements

  • Doctorate preferred
