Asst. Professor / Lecturer of Jazz Studies (Elon University)
Elon University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Jazz Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track; doctorate required) beginning August 2023. The Department of Music seeks a vibrant colleague with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching in jazz education at the undergraduate and/or secondary level. The position’s primary responsibilities will be to direct the jazz ensemble/big band, jazz combo, and teach jazz improvisation and harmony and arranging courses. Administrative duties include coordinating the Jazz Studies minor and the annual Elon Jazz Festival. Other teaching duties might include teaching university-wide courses such as History of Jazz, applied lessons, courses within Elon’s Core Curriculum, or other courses aligned with the successful candidates’ expertise. Service on departmental and university committees, academic advising for jazz minors, and active student recruitment will also be expected. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.
